Hi, Ben here.

I am a mature student in the BA Digital Humanities programme in University College Cork 🎓

I'm currently finished my first year, looking forward to getting back to work for second year in September 2023.

So far in my course, I have been introduced to the fields of Digital Humanities, Computer Science and, through my chosen College of Arts subject, Political Science.

I have explored the basis of computing, conducted photogrammetric 3D scanning of buildings, learned about the frameworks for studying international relations, been introduced to the world of virtual and augmented reality and set up this very website!

Renavigating college after a number of years out of education and trying to get to grips with a whole new field has been challenging but extremely rewarding. The people I have met and the subjects I have had the privilege of starting to understand, have provided me a great excited anticipation for the future. I cannot wait to see what it will hold for me, for those around me and for society as a whole.

But what is Digital Humanities??

Digital Humanities is a vibrant and ever-evolving field that represents the convergence of traditional humanities research and modern digital technologies. At its core, it is the digital layer that enhances and transforms our approach to humanities research.

As our technological capabilities continue to advance, the field of Digital Humanities strives to incorporate these advancements into scholarly work.

This involves the use of digital tools for information gathering, sorting, and analysis, offering newer, more efficient, and immersive ways to conduct research. But the impact of Digital Humanities extends far beyond academia. It also revolutionises how we share and explain research findings to the wider society, democratising access to knowledge and fostering a more informed and engaged society.

The profound benefits of this increased access to knowledge cannot be overstated. As we navigate an era of unprecedented technological advancement, the field of Digital Humanities provides us with the tools and insights needed to understand and engage with the world around us. It represents a new frontier in humanities research, one that promises to reshape our understanding of the world and our place within it.
